Remembering Coach Berg
Chester "Chet" Bergalowski Jr., affectionately known as "Coach Berg," passed away on January 10, 2026, at the age of 81. A standout athlete in his own right—drafted by both the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves—Coach Berg dedicated his life to developing young men on and off the field. He joined Booker T. Washington High School as head football coach and athletic director in 1994, and in his very first season led the Wildcats to a state championship. Over his 16 years at BTW, Coach Berg built a legacy of leadership, mentorship, and excellence that shaped countless athletes and left an indelible mark on our program and community. He will be deeply missed.
A visitation will be held from 10:00am until a memorial service celebrating Chet's life begins at 11:00am Saturday, February 7, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Pensacola, Chipley Hall. An internment service will be held in Laurel, MS at a later date.
